Exploring Cultures and Languages: Oak Knoll’s Commitment to Global Studies

Oak Knoll School is the top all-girls preschool through grade 12 school in Summit, New Jersey. As a member of the Holy Child Network of Schools, we’re not just preparing students for the world; we’re preparing them to change it. With roots in nine U.S. locations and extending to 13 international schools, sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus in countries including England, Ireland, France, Nigeria, and Ghana, our commitment to a global perspective in education is unmatched.

Our dynamic Global Studies initiative is at the heart of Oak Knoll’s mission, offering students unparalleled opportunities to engage with the world. Whether it’s mastering a new language, understanding the intricate tapestry of world cultures, or exploring global issues firsthand, at our girls’ school in New Jersey, our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive.

Real-World Learning Beyond Borders

At Oak Knoll, learning transcends classroom walls. Our students don’t just study global cultures; they experience them. Our robust exchange programs with schools in Barcelona, Spain; East Sussex, England; and Pasadena, California, allow Oak Knoll students to live, learn, and connect with peers across the globe. Our history of international travel includes enriching academic exchanges, performances, and service in diverse destinations from Appalachia to Australia, from the Czech Republic to Quebec, and beyond. For our younger students in the Lower School, virtual calls with Holy Child sister schools across the globe enrich their learning experience, providing an early foundation for global understanding and connection.

Trip Opportunities:

Students in grades 7-9 can embark on a three-year rotation of spring trips, allowing them to potentially explore up to three different destinations during their time at Oak Knoll (if they entered OKS in seventh grade).

Students in tenth grade also have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Holy Child Exchange Program, choosing an exchange experience with our sister schools either in Mayfield, UK, or Mayfield, CA.

Language trips complement their classroom learning, with each language offering specialized trips to enhance fluency and cultural immersion. For instance, Spanish students have the opportunity to take part in an exchange with a school in Barcelona, Spain. Latin students have previously enjoyed trips to Italy, bringing classical studies to life, while French students have experienced the rich culture of Quebec.

Students in grades 9-12 may experience various trips that are offered based on faculty input and emerging opportunities. These journeys not only broaden students’ cultural horizons but also foster personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the global community.
