Shaping Global Leaders: Oak Knoll’s Commitment to Global Education
Shaping Global Citizens at Oak Knoll
At Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, education is about more than just academics—it’s about shaping students into global citizens who are ready to make a difference in the world. As part of the Holy Child Network of Schools, Oak Knoll is deeply rooted in a tradition of global education that spans nine U.S. locations and 13 international schools across England, Ireland, France, Nigeria, Ghana, and beyond. This unique network, sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus, ensures that Oak Knoll students are not just prepared for the world but are empowered to change it.
Experiencing the World, Not Just Studying It
At Oak Knoll, global learning goes beyond textbooks. Through robust Upper School exchange programs, students have the opportunity to live, learn, and connect with peers in Barcelona, Spain; East Sussex, England; and Pasadena, California. These immersive experiences allow students to step outside their comfort zones, gain new perspectives, and build lifelong friendships.
But the global journey doesn’t stop there. Oak Knoll’s history of international travel includes academic exchanges, performances, and service projects in destinations as diverse as Appalachia, Australia, the Czech Republic, and Quebec. As Isabella C. ’28 shared after her trip to Iceland, “The trip taught me confidence and responsibility and showed me the importance of doing things independently.”
A Dynamic Global Studies Initiative
At the heart of Oak Knoll’s mission is its Global Studies initiative, which offers students unparalleled opportunities to engage with the world. Whether it’s mastering a new language, exploring world cultures, or tackling global issues firsthand, Oak Knoll students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive in an interconnected world.
For younger students in the Lower School, virtual calls with Holy Child sister schools around the globe lay the foundation for global understanding. These interactions often extend into cross-curricular activities, such as when students studying fossils and ecosystems collaborated with scientists in Antarctica. This partnership culminated in the planting of a flag in Antarctica, symbolizing the vital role young learners play in global scientific initiatives.
Building Bridges Through Exchange
Oak Knoll’s approach to global education is not just about sending students abroad—it’s also about welcoming the world into its own community. Oak Knoll families open their homes to students from partner schools abroad, fostering lifelong international friendships and creating a vibrant exchange of ideas and cultures.
This inclusive approach enriches the entire Oak Knoll community, offering students the chance to learn from one another and build a deeper understanding of the world. From exchange programs with schools in Barcelona and England to exploring New York City with peers from Ireland, Oak Knoll students are constantly immersed in a global network of learning and connection.
A School That Prepares Students to Change the World
At Oak Knoll, education is a journey that transcends classroom walls. By combining rigorous academics with immersive global experiences, the school prepares students to become compassionate, confident, and capable leaders. Whether it’s through international travel, cross-cultural exchanges, or collaborative projects, Oak Knoll students are empowered to make a meaningful impact on the world.
